COVID-19 Update – November 2020
At Belle Casa (High Wycombe) we are committed to following the government guidelines and protecting both our clients and housekeepers as much as possible during these terrible times.
We believe that cleaners will still be permitted to work inside people’s homes as long as the government guidelines on social distancing and staying safe are followed – our guidelines, which reflect these, can be found here.
The Government document “Working Safely during Coronavirus” defines what it regards as an in house worker as follows:
What do we mean by working in “other people’s homes”?
We acknowledge that this is a complex environment due to the varied employment relationships, including the self-employed, employers and agencies.
This guidance applies to those working in, visiting or delivering to home environments. These include, but are not limited to, people working in the following areas:
- In home workers – such as repair services, fitters, meter readers, plumbers, cleaners, cooks, visiting childcare providers, and surveyors (this is not an exhaustive list)
The new Guidance on National Restrictions issued by the Government (updated on 1 November) states:
Stay At Home
This means you must not leave or be outside of your home except for specific purposes. These include:
- for childcare or education, where this is not provided online
- for work purposes, where your place of work remains open and where you cannot work from home (including if your job involves working in other people’s homes)
As the Government clearly defined its definition of an in home worker in its “Working Safely during Coronavirus” document, we have interpreted this, along with much of the media and the Solicitors Stevens and Bolton, to mean that those whose jobs involve working in other people’s homes, such as cleaners, may continue to work.
However, the ultimate decision about working through this time remains with the Client and the Housekeeper, obviously, both must be happy to do this and adhere strictly to the guidelines that can be found here.
At Belle Casa (High Wycombe) we want to ensure that we are still offering our services to those people who require them in a safe and manageable manner. Should you have any concerns or wish to ask any questions please contact us on 01494 520 420 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
